Why every workspace gets its own budget

The MediaMint Team

Talk to any studio using generative tools and you hear the same incident report: a shared team balance, one enthusiastic project, and a month’s budget gone by the 19th — with no way to tell which client’s work spent it. The tools all bill per team; the work is organized per project. That mismatch is the bug.

The model: budgets live where work lives

On MediaMint, a workspace is both things at once — the boards for a project and the wallet that funds them. Every workspace carries its own credit balance: its own free daily 100, its own top-ups, its own ledger. Generate on a client’s board and it’s the client workspace’s balance that moves, automatically, because spend follows the board it happens on.

What that unlocks

  • Isolation. An experiment-heavy pitch can burn hot without touching the retainer client’s pool. Running dry stops one workspace, not the studio.
  • Attribution for free. “What did we spend on Acme in June?” is the workspace ledger, not a spreadsheet reconstruction. For agencies, that’s a pass-through line item on the invoice.
  • Deliberate funding. Top up the launch-week workspace with exactly the campaign’s media budget. When it’s spent, the conversation is “add budget?” — not “who spent it?”.
  • Movable money. Credits transfer between workspaces whenever priorities shift. Deadline moved up? Slide credits over; slide the remainder back after delivery.

Roles close the loop

Owners and admins manage a workspace’s funding; editors create on its boards and spend from its pool; and your personal workspace — the one your subscription funds each month — stays yours. Freelancers keep their plan when a client workspace runs dry; clients never end up subsidizing a contractor’s side projects.

The principle underneath is the same one behind our pricing: costs should be legible where they’re incurred. Shared-pool billing hides who spent what; workspace budgets make the finance conversation boring — which is the highest compliment finance conversations get.
